Return of the JOGAKBO
57 x 57 in. Recycled fabric, Dryer sheet, Plastic mesh bag, Thread, Yarn
The traditional Korean Jogakbo (조각보) was crafted by piecing together small scraps of fabric, each unique in color and texture, to create a functional yet beautiful wrapping cloth. These fragments, otherwise discarded, became whole, serving as protective wraps for valuables or travel essentials.
In "Return of Jogakbo," I reimagine this tradition using modern discarded materials—plastic mesh bags, dryer sheets, and more. Through these pieces, I weave a contemporary Jogakbo that pays homage to past resourcefulness while exploring new meanings of reuse, protection, and journey in today’s world.
